Instant Recall Spanish Vocabulary: Learn and Remember Spanish Faster than You Ever Imagined Possible!

An unusual and intriguing revision aid, I found this to be of limited use in preparing me for my Spanish GCSE exams. The American accents and downright bonkers associations - 'the Spanish for Tuesday is martes; imagine martyrs being burned at the stake on tuesdays' - causing me to laugh more than anything else. Still, as my previous sentence shows, I've remembered it and I suppose that is the point!

I bought this after completing the Michel Thomas foundation and advanced courses which focus strongly on grammar (and that's what you need if you're serious about learning the language).

The learning method of associatig a spanish word with a bizzare scenario works OK but I found that I already knew every word on the CD so I have to say I was disappointed. This course is nice and cheap and it'll teach you a few words but it's strictly for the absolute beginner.

If you really want to set yourself apart from the "turistas", spend a bit more and go for the Michel Thomas courses.

It took me about two days to go through the Instant Recall Spanish Vocabulary CDs and a week later I still remembered the two hundred words as clearly as when I first learned them. The method used to teach you the words is the best method I have come across for learning another language and I would highly recommend this CD for beginners.

Dr Michael Gruneberg, the memory expert, asks you to picture images that will help you recall the words. This works very well if you picture the image clearly in your mind while thinking of the word.
The only negative thing I have to say about this CD is that some of the images he uses to teach you the words are not as good as some of the others; however, it is now a few weeks later and I still remember all two hundred words. It is just a shame the memory expert didn't make another CD.

I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to get a kick start to learning Spanish. Perhaps like many of us you have kept putting it off........and well, putting it off! All I can say is this product works! Word association is a well documented technique in memorisation and it certainly works here. Instead of working hard to remember we found that it was hard to forget the meaning of Spanish words and their pronounciation.

What a confidence booster! I thought I was the the "lingual dimwit" of the family but found this course to be so user friendly that I kept up with everyone.

Originally our target was to learn 10 Spanish words a day. After 4 days we had learned 120 Spanish words which is more than half the course.

Surprisingly, quite a few Spanish words have a lot of similarities to English - it is often just pronounced slightly differently usually by adding a vowel or two on to the English word. This adds to your confidence when tackling Spanish words that don't have similarities using the little word association exercise that goes with each new word. In this way it is possible to make huge progress which only encourages you more.

We bought the book by the same author which uses the same technique and builds on the the 200 word (DVD) course. I (the dimwit) started to read this on my own and found that I was able to translate 8 word word sentences from Spanish into English (after 4 days of using the DVD course and learning 120 nouns.)

Once you have learned the collection of nouns they give you on the DVD the book then gives you the basic grammar to join the words into short sentences. Simple but clever!

I would buy the DVD together with the book. I am convinced no-one could be disappointed.
