I am applying to Medicine this year, and saw this book whilst writing my personal statement. As I had no idea of what a 'good' PS looked like, i thought i'd buy it for some hints and tips.

Please be aware when you are buying it, that this is intended for US Medicine applicants, which is a very different system to ours. I was not aware of this, and so many of the essays were of no use to me, and i could not draw from it any help.

However, the little exercises before the sample essays were good. It got me thinking about things which i may not have thought about before, and was a good starting place. You probably could however find similar information online.

I would recommend this book for any US students, however only to UK students applying to UK medical schools, if you have the money to realistically only be paying for half the book.

Bought this book for my daughter who is applying this year through UCAS to Cambridge, UCL and a number of other universities for Medicine [A100] course. The idea was that it would be useful for writing the essay question on the BMAT medical examination.

Really disappointed with this book. After it eventually arrived we flicked through it. ABSOLUTE HORROR !!!!

Its a guide primarily for writing medical essays for getting into US Medical Schools. It appears that they have an essay section on their equivalent of UCAS and it is an "all about me and why I want to goto medical school" type thing. Absolutely nothing to do with the UK system where in the BMAT you need to write a structured essay on some issue of medical relevence or ethics.

Let me quote "The authors of this book are all part of an internet-based company called IvyEssays...." They are all from mainly Ivy League Colleges in the US.

If you are applying to the UK, forget this.. its totally pointless.. why is it even on here??

As someone who works privately with students, helping them with admissions essays for medical school, I highly recommend this book. When students call me in regard to assistance with their essays, I recommend that they first buy this book as a means to get started. The guidelines and essays have helped my clients not only to gather their thoughts, but also to organize and write them into interesting and creative essays. By the time they come to me for feedback and editing, they are well on the way to getting into the medical schol of their choice.
