Sign With Your Baby Complete Learning Kit - UK Edition (Book, Training Video, Quick Reference Guide & BSL Booklet Combination)

This was by far the best buy to date - I began from 4 mths with my little girl and at first it seems as though nothing is happening but by 7 mths signing became part of life. It has been invaluable both the book and the video. My daughter spent her first xmas in hosptial with severe croup but through signing she was able to tell me when she wanted water, milk to be hugged etc.

She never gets frustrated as she is able to tell me when she is hungry and thirsty and beams when she has learnt a new sign.

Both family, friends and parents at the local toddler group have seen my daughter in action and think its amazing - I would say its a must for anyone!

I was looking forward to receiving this pack as I have seen other children signing, and couldn't wait to get going learning the signs to teach my baby. I had spoken to people who just bought the book, who knew others who thought the video and kit was worth the extra value. I'm afraid I don't think it is.

The video demonstrates the ideas written about in the book, which is quite nice, but there is nothing new on it. The book demonstrates how to do the signs really well in pictures, so the video doesn't add much.

The most disappointing was that this is meant to be a UK Edition, but the main book, quick reference guide and obviously video, are all in American sign language. The only British sign language part is a companion booklet. It would make so much difference if the quick ref guide was also provided in BSL, so that it could be shared with other 'caregivers' as the book suggests. I am now undecided whether to use ASL or BSL with my baby.

I still recommend the book (if you are happy to use ASL) as the idea is great, but don't think the kit is worth the extra money, even at this lower price.

We started using the basic signs with our son from about 6 months and the effect was very quick. Within a month he was able to understand and show that he was trying to sign back. An interesting thing we have found is that he does not particularly use them now. He will learn new signs initally but then seems to stop using them, even though my a partner and I persist in using them. However, I think a very positive consequence (either of the signing or natural ability) is that he started speaking very early and has quite an advanced vocabulary and speaks clearly. Now we are at the stage where we try a new sign, saying the word along with it, and he learns to say the word before doing the sign back.

We continue to use it as a method for teaching him new words rather than expecting him to sign back. The real value for us has been in communicating what we want (e.g touch-no), or asking him questions, using signs.

The main (and first) benefit were the initial signs - milk, more, all gone and eat. Especially milk, all gone and more. They really helped us and I'm sure they will help you too. Thankfully communication has not been a frustration for us because of Mr Garcias work.

Well worth every penny!

I heard about this program on the Tonight Show and immediately decided to purchase it. I started showing the signs to my baby on a regular basis from the age of about 4 months. He didn't start signing properly until about nine months but now at 12 months everybody else can clearly understand his signs for more, no, juice, milk, dummy, nappy change, fan, apple, dog and cat. They can't believe it and neither can I he now picks up new signs within a couple of days sometimes much sooner. You do need to be persistant at first but once they start there is no stopping them. Everybody wants to try and teach him a sign. It is incredibly rewarding and VERY HELPFUL AID TO THE MOTHER OF A YOUNG TODDLER. SUPERB AND WORTH EVERY PENNY!

I too saw the tv programme and was intrigued enough to buy the video and book. We worked hard with this and it has brought great results. My daughter is now 19months and her speech is way ahead of her peers - it has not avoided the terrible two's as she has learnt how to argue with sign and word :-) Would recommend this to anyone - it really is a relief to a small child to be able to express themselves and get the basics across.
