You Can Sing-Seven Steps to Singing [2003]BUY FROM AMAZON.CO.UK

EDITORIAL REVIEWAimed principally at those who love posing in front of their bedroom mirror pretending they're the next Madonna or Robbie, You Can Sing is a bluffers' guide to singing pop. The main feature follows teenagers Danni and Peter as they receive coaching from two of the UK's leading pop-vocal coaches, Carrie and David Grant. Unlike the cut-throat competition of Pop Idol and Fame Academy, this is a cosy step-by-step guide to singing, with the Grants adopting cuddly teacher personas. The two students are not your everyday pop wannabes either, having seemingly been dragged in from stage school rather than the street. The feature climaxes with the pair putting into practice Carrie and David's seven steps to success (ranging from breathing technique to vocal range) by professionally recording tracks such as Williams's "Angels" and Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful". The show includes advice from some of the Grants' most recent and successful students—among them Will Young, Melanie C and Lemar--and there are also brief guidance segments on topics such as whether it's safe to sing with a cold. Critics might say that a programme such as this simply encourages more second-rate karaoke singers to dream of pop stardom; but at the very least it might ensure that future pop-reality shows aren't short of talent. On the DVD:You Can Sing's somewhat lacklustre main feature is boosted by the interactivity of the extra material included on the disc. The songs "Angels" and "Beautiful" can be practised at home in karaoke-fashion, with the lyrics flashed on to the screen. There's also the opportunity to feel what it's like to perform in front of a roaring live crowd. The interviews with the star graduate can be watched in their entirety via the bonus material menu and the short feature on correctly holding a hair brush as if it is a microphone is fun and informative.--John Galilee PRODUCT DETAILSFrom: ITV DVDPub. This book is standard nothing special. Like most books in this genre you don't leave feeling that you and tackle any songs as the exercises are weak or usually lack of them. What I would recommend is `an introduction to singing with style' I came across this book quite by accident on amazon.co.uk and it has helped me a lot. It goes into great depth about how to develop a great singing voice, vocal projection, vocal clarity and this book even tells you what diet to avoid and what food is good for healthy living it's amazing! If you're looking for vocal stamina then this book has it!
I can't say much more than all the positive feedback given below. I had this as an Amazon rental and I am adding it to my next purchase because it is worth keeping to practice. I did want to comment on the interviews that someone here questioned. For me, they were very useful as breather points to let me practice on my own while watching some less involved action on screen. Much better than a quiet gap. If the subject interests you, and you can ignore the 'pre-school' style cover picture, then this is a great DVD.
I enjoy this DVD. It is bright and optimistic and teaches some good basic techniques which have helped me with my singing and confidence. It is meant for the younger audience, I think, but the message is just as relevant, so what the heck. I have just started having individual singing lessons and, of course,no DVD can match the quality of that. However, I have been able to come back to the Grants DVD and listen to them again and get more out of their instruction and realize their credibility.
I enjoyed watching and joining in with the CD but it wasn't as indepth as I wanted it to be. The exercises are useful but there is a bit too much unnecessary 'fancy stuff' instead of just getting down to the nitty gritty. Don't really think the interviews did anything for the DVD either really. More practical help would have been more useful. If its a bit of fun you want then this is the DVD for you but if you really want to take singing seriously I'd look elsewhere.
This is not a quick fix. If you are looking for a dvd to give your singing a quick improvement (if there is such a dvd!) this is not it. To improve requires time, practise and dedication. The instruction on the dvd is excellent. Carrie and David present the techniques in an accessible, understandable way then take you through each technique showing how to master it. Then it's up to you to persevere and practise. If you're serious this is for you, if not forget it. SIMILAR ITEMS:
