EDITORIAL REVIEW

A bride to save his name . . .

Unless he finds a wealthy wife—and soon—Lord Ian Sutcombe will lose everything. Left deeply in debt by his foolish father and greedy stepmother, his only hope is to marry for money.

Stung by a suitor's cruel betrayal, Hannah Leeds, daughter of a prosperous merchant, wasn't sure she'd ever love again. So when her father arranges her betrothal to the handsome lord, she agrees.

It was no more than a marriage of convenience. They would honor and obey, but never love . . . until a simmering passion exploded into a sizzling affair. Now, with Hannah socializing with members of the ton and another man out to win her heart, Ian will do everything in his power to show Hannah she is his ecstasy, his desire fulfilled . . . and oh so much more than a bride for his convenience.

A lovely story, an entertainment
~ Written on Jun 11, 2009. out of 2 users found this review helpful.

I am the author's daughter, so I am biased. However, this book is a gripping read. It's a love story, an entertainment. It is not hip, but the characters are fully fashioned, have humor and the love story is timeless.

An Inconveniently Boring Bride and Groom
~ Written on Feb 15, 2009. 2 out of 3 users found this review helpful.

I was so excited to pick up this book, but that excitement didn't last very long. Maybe I'm a psychic, because the first chapter kind of told me what to expect from the rest of the book. Two more boring, gutless, passionless, thoughtless, unimaginative people would be hard to find in romance.

given the chance to make love to his wife of four days, this prosey bore decided it was too soon. Hunh? Their continuous conversations about why they got married didn't ring true, either. Every other historical romance I've read about that time period would lead me to believe that the money would not have been as big an issue since dowries were the thing back then, and men got to do with them whatever they wished, with no requirement of approval from the wife or her family. So, that part didn't ring true at all.

fact, I am surprised that Edith Layton thought to make it such a huge issue, but since she did, it could have been done so much better, and with so much more creativity and passion. What a marvelous setup for huge emotional scenes, flame throwing and scorched sheets, and she missed the boat. I am so disappointed. In fact, this book was so poorly written in my opinion it was ghost written for her. Think about that.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!

If this book can be published, I am going to start writing Historical Romance myself so I can get published too.
There is really nothing good to say about this book.
It really had no plot and the H & H were just awful.
This book was not at all romantic or enjoyable.
That about says it all regarding this book as far as I am concerned.
When you think about what we PAY for these romance books, we should be given a refund for this one.
Just my honest opinion.

A Bride for His Convenience
~ Written on Feb 6, 2009. 3 out of 7 users found this review helpful.

What happens when you marry for convenience but then fall in love... with your own wife? In A Bride for His Convenience by Edith Layton, the couple at the heart of the story are in for a rocky beginning to their "bought" marriage.

Lord Ian Sutcombe is looking for a woman of substantial money among the commoners, as no one of the higher classes would marry someone as penniless as he is. Reduced to a poor state of finances due to a horrid stepmother, Ian must find someone willing to exchange money for his title.

Hannah Leeds has just had her heartbroken when marriage to Lord Sutcombe is suggested. Wealthy, but common, she fits the requirements - someone with money, a family that would benefit from her new title and isn't atrocious.

What starts off as a very polite, if boring marriage, gradually changes into more. Sizzling sex, confusion as things are said and not said, as well as the return of Hannah's heartbreaker, make for a fiery romance.

I thought 'A Bride for His Convenience' was well written, with a realistic pacing of the feelings between the two protagonists. The action moved along and the characters were enjoyable. There were times I wanted to smack the couple and make them come to their senses, but that is what makes for an enjoyable read.
