Perhaps ok if you gonna pass TOEFL CBT.But I'm preparing for TOEFL Ibt
~ Written on Sep 13, 2007. out of users found this review helpful.

Well, It happened that I bought the book by recommendation.I was preparing to pass TOEFL.and in may be 2 weeks at my regional center they said that they will provide with IBT version of the test. Not CBT.
Now practically in all Regional Toefl centers you have to pass Toefl IBT.
But I guess it wasn't the guilt of the creators of the book that I decided to pass test so late.
So the book itself not much of use.As Toefl Ibt contains no Structure(Grammar) section. Also on Toefl IBT there is no all those idiomatic stuff. And Toefl Ibt has 2 writting essays, while the book teaches you how to write only one of them. Moreover Toefl IBt has speaking part.
Well some tips were very good.
Perhaps, if I had to pass the test some 2 years ago it'd be really helpful. Also very good CDset for listening part.
As for the mistakes in answers.Yes there were some but in general I needed to prepare how to pass the Test, not how to check my answers. The answers will be checked by ETS.

Has mistakes in the answer key...

Wow... nothing like a book that's supposed to help non-native speakers prepare for a test of the English language that has WRONG answers in it.

A non-native English speaking friend of mine asked me to look at a few of the questions in this book that she thought she had answered correctly, but the book answer key had indicated were wrong. Sure enough, she'd answered the questions correctly, but the BOOK was wrong. And of course, the book could be 99% accurate, but after finding several substantial mistakes, she's quite frustrated and untrusting of the whole thing. Not exactly the best way to build someone's confidence before they take the TOEFL.

I suspect they just dorked up the letters (A,B,C,D, etc) and the questions they correlate to on the answer sheet, but WOW, what a critical area to make a mistake in. Author David Dannenbaum (or his editors) ought to be skewered for such an error.

Unfortunate part is this would only be a 2-3 star rating WITHOUT all the mistakes. And even more unfortunate, a lot of the people who are prospective buyers of this book are less likely to see this enlightening review (unless they just happen to surf the American version of Amazon for reviews in their spare time).

incredibal one

When I found this book in the library and did not find it the next day(it just had been checked out), I know I need to get one myself. I need to take the Toefl Test again, since my last Toefl score expired. The 30 days' step by step preparation save me a lot of trouble , and I don't even worry about what should I study within the short period of time. If you are kind of familir with what's going on in the Toefl Test, just buy it.
