EDITORIAL REVIEW

Similar in concept to Tuttle's successful Kanji-a-Day and Kana-a-Day practice pads, this learning tool provides an enjoyable and motivating way for the learner to practice writing Chinese characters. The practice pad comes in the form of a memo block containing basic instructions, plus 365 numbered sheets: one per day for a year of learning, or more than one per day for faster progress! In writing Chinese characters, it is essential to follow the correct stroke-order and create uniform, well-proportioned, squarish shapes, rather than rectangular or rounded ones. Constant practice in the early stages of learning is vital in order for these habits to become second nature as you learn more and more characters.Essential help in learning to write the character is provided in diagrams showing its components and configuration, and above all, the stroke-order. Around the edge of each page, a set of 28 squares allow the user to first trace the character on top of the model, and then practice writing it independently.

A good learning tool

I like the portability of this format: I can tear off a sheet in the morning and take it to the office. My daughter has already asked for the used sheets so that she can pick up a few words of Chinese to show off to her friends. If you're interested in learning how to write Chinese, this would be a good addition to your desk, although I would recommend also getting flashcards.

Love this product!

I just received this product and I think it's fabulous! I wish I had bought Volume 1, too, but it seems to be out of stock. I know some characters already, but this is a great way to brush up on my Chinese. I highly recommend it!

Great study help!

Nowadays many are trying to learn some Chinese. They would all love this! I just wish it were in a more permanent form [as I am using it, not tearing off those precious pages] for ready reference. Thank you.

O.K.

I ordered this practice pad along with the Chinese in a Flash Vol. 1 & 2. I thought this practice pad would offer more ideas, but it takes the characters in the exact order of Chinese in a Flash Vol. 1 only not all of them, just some. Had I known this I would not have bought the practice pad. If I was you I would get either this practice pad OR Chinese in a Flash Vol. 1 (personally I would get the Chinese in a Flash card, much more options, reusable & easy to carry size.)

Better than you think

This is not a calendar going by month and day, but lists the day of the year as a number (1-365). Notice on the package it IS listed as a "Practice Pad" and not as a calendar at all. I'd like to give it 4.5 stars, if I could; I only wish it came with a stand. I found the characters helpful. The stroke order is given, along with three chances to trace the character and 25 more chances to write it yourself without the tracing. It gives the simplified form of the character, but also the traditional form, if available. The box contains a "handout" with pronounciation helps. I have this calendar at work, and I work on the "charcater of the day" before checking my email! 8-)
