EDITORIAL REVIEW

When a poor devout widow begs for a scrap of bread from a rich faithless baker, she promises to participate in the king's wedding mass as payment for the baker's generosity. The baker writes "One Mass" on a scrap of paper and places it on his scale to determine how much bread it is worth. To his and the entire town's surprise, nothing in the shop, not even the gigantic wedding cakes made for the king, outweighs the simple piece of paper representing the true worth of a mass. Luminous old-world watercolor paintings grace the interior of the book and gold foil artwork lends an air of solemnity and sacred beauty to the story.

A great gift to our children
~ Written on Sep 29, 2009. out of users found this review helpful.

My children adore this thought provoking tale. We gave it our daughter as a reconciliation gift (so hard to find an appropriate gift for that sacrament). Her and our younger son got the subtle meaning of this story. A short book with rich illustrations.

Brings Tears to Your Eyes

This is one of my very favorite books in the entire world. It still does not fail to bring tears to be eyes each time I read it with my children. What a beautiful way to explain what we are given at Mass each Sunday and how most people fail to recognize the true beauty and treasure we have in the Eucharist. A book for every Catholic.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!

This book was even better than I expected! The story is awe-inspiring, and is a great take-along to Mass for the younger child, and a great anytime story for kids of all ages! Instills the importance and value of the Mass, as well as faith, in a delightful storytale style, even though the story itself is based on a true-life happening. I recommend it to any Catholic family, especially those with young children.

The Weight of a Mass: A Tale of Faith

A wonderful story to share with your children about the value of participating at Mass. My five year old grand-daughter enjoyed hearing this story and I had the opportunity to answer her questions about our faith.

Moving

This is one of the finest children's books I have encountered in a long time. The story is one that speaks to parents and grandparents as much as it does to children. It is a story of a time of lost faith challenged by the ancient faith of our fathers. In the end we are drawn back to a new appreciation and love for the Mass. Very highly recommended.
