This is a great book. Rick didn't make you feel you had to read everything fast!Down to earth guy.Don't hesitate to buy this great book!

I agree with the spotlight review that says this book does not contain a lot of content and that much of it appears to be padded. However, despite the simple approach, it will teach you to read faster. While, the book is light on content, it is not quite as light on content as some of the reviews would have you believe. There are certainly more than two important concepts in the book.

However, the most valuable aspect of this book is that it offers a structured program and lots of support and encouragement. It is difficult to change old habits and this book gives you a good track to run on. I recommend it, but you may want to augment is with additional materials. I also think the "why" explanations for various practices is useful and valuable.

Took a Evelyn Woods Speed Reading Course Company Provided.About 20 Yrs ago. Did help on the speed & comprehension. But over the years lost the
real feel of speed reading & comprehension.Found this book on Amazon &
bought the book. Make a long story short.Mr Rick Ostrov work on this Great
learning tool is what I need to get back to a reading & comprehension level that I am really comfortable.Yes I bought four more to give to
grandkids & friends that I know will use them.. Oh that reminds me. Need
to order at least 4 more. No I not being paid to say this.One more thing
using the REGULATOR really helped.Oh with 30 years of experience Rick did
a excellent job. GREAT BOOK TO HAVE IN YOUR LEARNING TOOL BOX

Rick Ostrov, Power Reading: The Fastest, Easiest, Most Effective Course on Speedreading and Comprehension Ever Developed (3/e) (The Education Press, 2002)

I will admit, in the spirit of full disclosure, that I read this book in something less than the month it's supposed to take, and completed it less than a week ago, so the full extent of Ostrov's tutelage has not yet taken root in my head. So I can't attest, ultimately, to the efficacy of the course itself. I can just tell you about the book.

It's not a badly-written little thing at all. And while the main obstacle that Ostrov sees to people reading to their full potential is one I discovered on my own seven or eight years ago (and have been struggling to overcome since; I'm hoping that by the end of next month, following these exercises, I'll have done it), I understand that most people probably haven't figured it out yet, and am not going to deduct points on that basis.

The bottom line is that if you want to read faster, this is worth looking into. I can't guarantee it will work, of course, because everyone's different. I can tell you that the problems Ostrov addresses are quite common, and the solutions he offers to them are common-sense solutions, though he might have offered a few more pointers on how to get around certain things, rather than just pointing them out and saying "this is something you need to overcome if you're going to be a true power reader." But really, it's quite an inexpensive book for the possible rewards. ***

Great book to read and study. I recommend it to anyone that is thinking of improving your reading speed. Great book every read.
