EDITORIAL REVIEW

Just because you have diabetes doesn't mean you can't enjoy life, eat well, and live healthy!

Tell Me What to Eat If I Have Diabetes begins with a detailed, but non-technical overview of diabetes, specifically Type II diabetes. Elaine clearly presents the latest medical findings on what causes diabetes, available treatments, and the dietary implications of this disease.

This revised edition of Tell Me What to Eat If I Have Diabetes includes:
* How to use an individualized carbohydrate budget.
* Practical tips to lower dangerous blood lipids.
* Quick guide to understanding and using the glycemic index and glycemic load.
* Revolutionary fiber tips (because you can't talk about carbohydrates, Type II diabetes, and great health without factoring in fiber).
* A list of new foods that may actually help people with Type II diabetes.
* Everything you need to know about alternative sweeteners.

What's new in this edition?
* An updated section on trans-fatty acids and how to be a "trans-fat" detective.
* A new section on smart snacking.
* The 10 food steps to freedom.
* The latest research and findings on diet and Type II diabetes.
* The key steps that have been particularly successful for weight loss in people with Type II diabetes.

Tell Me What to Eat If I Have Diabetes includes dozens of healthful, practical, mouth-watering recipes, plus supermarket and restaurant advice. The recipes all include familiar, easy-to-find ingredients, and involve minimal preparation time.

Pre Diabetic Information
~ Written on Aug 17, 2009. out of users found this review helpful.

This is a very good book for someone like me who is pre-diabetic. I haven't read the book all the way throught yet, that can be overwhelming, but I look at different sections as I find more questions that I want answered. So far, I am very pleased with this book and I highly recommend it for anyone who is diabetic or pre-diabetic.

It gets better when you re-read, re-read it.

I skimmed through the book when I first received it, and was not impressed. But on re-reading and re-re-reading, and paying more attention to what the author has to say, I did find it helpful. I am newly diagnosed with diabetes and have much to learn. This book includes a lot of practical suggestions. I'm still re-re-reading, dog-earing sections for later reference.

I have diabetes all over in my family, so I was NOT surprised when my doc decided to assume I had gestational diabetes right from the start of my pregnancy.

However, both my mom and her dad don't take good care of themselves, so I didn't have any good role models for what I should be eating. I knew what NOT to eat...but not what I should focus on instead.

The nurse that spoke with me (NOT a nutritionist) was way off in her diet recommendations, this book helped me eat again! I sat and read it in just a few days, it has great advice and was easy to understand. I don't generally use it as a reference, but I'm glad I read it early on.

Few days ago, my doctor told me I had diabetes and to watch what I eat. On my way home I decided to stop by at the bookstore to see if they had some type of information to provide more light on the subject. Others could have diabetes, but not me. I was in shock! On the shelf there was Elaine Magee's book. I bought it. Within 2 days I read it all. Found so many answers in it. Answers I could understand. Recipes I could use. Very helpful informations.
