More Than Singing: Discovering Music in Preschool and Kindergarten

The influence of music upon children from young to old is a great one. Music, whether it be basic songs or the use of simple instruments, plays a big role in early childhood development and can be seen in most early childhood programs. So many musical experiences, though, remain unused and unrealized. Teachers, child care professionals and parents, however, can steer clear of the misconception that they need to be "trained musicians" to teach children music. More Than Singing is a book created to explore the wealth of musical opportunities available to child care providers, teachers and parents and the children they care for. Author Sally Moomaw provides an informative text which answers the questions teachers most commonly ask. The text offers over a hundred music activities with photographs of instruments and instructions on how to construct the materials. A cassette tape accompanies the book to enable everyone to hear all of the musical examples and contains all 58 songs in the book. Ms. Moomaw makes the book accessible to all levels of musical ability.
