EDITORIAL REVIEW

Play is a natural form of learning. It varies from frivolous to intensely serious. It resolves conflict, strengthens bonds and provides physical workouts. Participants learn to play by rules and develop cunning strategies and solutions. During games players are not focussing on specific skills and their bodies and minds can learn effectively. They will be stretched physically and mentally. This book covers a range of over 50 Games and variations selected from the rich background of Kay's teaching practice. You can build a specific curriculum for your dog or simply enjoy the teaching learning process.

Good stuff, but hard to access

There's a lot of promise in this book - if you can penetrate the clumsy grammar and writing style to figure out what Laurence is actually trying to say. I'm not new to clicker training, but I found myself reading the same sentences over and over, trying to extract meaning from them. When I finally did, there was always a much clearer and simpler way to say it. What's more, the book is very poorly proofread, with irritating mistakes on many pages. I've no doubt Laurence is a great dog trainer, but her instructions to us mere humans could be much clearer. My dogs have learned several of these games and we've had fun with them, but the inpenetrability of the writing style has made it a slog for me and spoiled an otherwise very enjoyable experience.
