Site Downtime - 9th March

It was initially feared that UsingEnglish.com was suffering from a DDOS attack. Our hosts had a very busy time investigating the problem and resolved it as fast as they could.

After a painstaking investigation we now believe that the huge amount of connections to UsingEnglish.com was simply due to the Yahoo! web crawler, Slurp, indexing the content of our site.

We have taken measures to ensure that this will not happen again. For those of you who might be interested, we have used their Crawl-delay command in our robots.txt file.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused by this situation, and hope that it will never happen again.
