I think the second one is quite clumsy, because I have to count how many "two"s have I said but if I use the first one, I'm afraid that people may think that I said "52834".
If you're trying to be clear, to recite a number so someone can write it down, you do it whatever way works, Polygon. For this I might say it both ways;


It's "five two's, then eight three four; that's "two two two two two eight three four".
