Default one-time gains from acquisitions

(context: Wal-Mart International has grown into a $63 billion business. It is the fastest-growing part of Wal-Mart. Even subtracting one-time gains from acquisitions, it grew at nearly 12 percent, about double the rate of Wal-Mart’s American stores. )

1)Does $63 billion refer to the gains or the sales?
2)What does "one-time gains from acquisitions" mean and why is it subtracted?
