The quotation by Will Rogers is self explanatory in nature. The meaning of liberty is freedom of opinion and actions. Liberty is the hot issue now a days but5 in depth not fruitful as such. Everyone struggling hard to keep his head above the water regardless of the mounting pulls of gravity towards a life with no choice. Liberty is a phenomenon overly exploited by media and NGO's but actually practiced rarely. The question of liberty arises when people have choices but here the scene is different. In a developing country like Pakistan "choice is an illusion but available to those who have power" Religious concept of Islam gives opportunity of freedom to everyone.
Actually practices speak differently, seminars are conducted and speeches are made for women liberty but of no use. Still our societal norms help to chain women by traditional practices, social pressures and educational ignorance. In the result women are at suffering side although fighting to gain liberty.
Liberty is a bewitching idea that creates a spell if speeches are being made but in routine life it is something that lost charm. It is different as relishing dream from brazen reality, shiny day from dark night and hot summer from cold winter. And the gap is created by the notion to talk more and work little. In the present era the example of Afghanistan destruction is proof of contradiction between said words and committed actions. US the most liberal state talks about absolute liberty but perform absolute autocracy.
In conclusion, liberty is a shady tree conceptually but without roots practically.

This is a very beautiful text but I find you go to extremes and see things in black and white. Although complete liberty is an illusion why don't you put it on a continuum of varying degrees on which you can go up and down. In addition, the word
liberty is a human concept and anything which is human is either hypocritical, self-centred or subject to double-standards. BTW not only the Americans but the rest of the world as well. Take any political system, religion or other human values specific of a certain group of people you'll soon find there is a big gap between what they propagate and practise. A lot of countries in the Middle East for example accuse America of double-standards or minding only its own business but are they really any better?
As far as women are concerned perhaps you have heard of the
glass ceiling. Even most developed countries which claim to have granted women their liberty and treat them as equal cannot put these concepts completely into practice. But this doesn't mean at least part of it cannot be valid. As long as human beings live this contradiction will always apply. You have first to understand: what are people like? Managers for instance have in vain tried hard to understand this mystry and change their styles accordingly every now and then.
The quote says: it doesn't work in practice as well as it does in speech". This implies it can work to a certain extent. However, in your text you deny the existence of liberty completely. Draw a comparison between what is usually said/written and practised. You need to analyse what people say and write and then compare the results not only with the degree of contradictory behaviour but what has been put into practice so far as well. I would recommend not to focus on one country as you did with the US.
