I don't know. Was it a native speaker who said? It's vaguely familiar - Shawshank Redemption?
There is an expression 'I take my chances' (no 'own') meaning 'when an opportunity arises I make the most of it' - but I don't see how that could fit this context. Perhaps he's using 'take' as in 'take a punishment', and 'my own chances' to mean 'my personal destiny, for which I'm responsible' - so that what he's saying is 'I've done the crime, I recognize I must do the time'.
I'm really not sure though.
