Default Be?

=============================
I may as well die as marry him.
==============================

Is this sentence incorrect? Should it changed to "I may as well die than marry him? "

I know "I would rather die than marry him." is correct.
How about "I may as well die as marry him."?

In British English, "I may as well die than marry him," is correct?

A native from UK said " I may as well die than marry him." is correct.

REALLY?
