In my school days, our teacher spoke of some idiom "Sword Of Damocles". After many years I rememberd that idiom while teaching my daughter. COuld someone help me in explaining that idiom

"The sword of Damocles" means a mishap that will fall on somebody at any time. For example, As an employer, you say to your employee one day, "If you 're late for work again, you will be fired." To the employee, the menace is "the sword of Damocles" 。
