Default advice on coursebooks needed

Hi!

I am new to teaching and have a problem with finding a book for one of my students. She had done Macmillian Inside Out upper-intermediate at school and wanted to continue working with this series, so we decided on Inside out Advanced. Unfortunately I am finding this book too difficult for her. I doubt if there is a point in moving into very analitical advanced material while she still hasn't mastered more basic stuff. She finished Upper-intermediate course over a year ago, had almost two-year break... which I should have taken into account before putting her at advanced level. She does all the tasks from the book but I feel she would benefit more from different textbook, maybe on upper- intermediate level. What's the point in teaching exquisite or superb to student who doesn't know tasty, tastelles, bitter, sour, etc? I end up giving with long lists of more basic vocabulary for homework (usually from English Vocabulary in Use, upper-intermediate) which doesn't make much sense to me (she should be learning them from a coursebook in context). Can you recommend any strong upper-intermediate coursebook?. Help!
