Hope someone can help with this.

"Researchers reported that the Earth is warming up."

WHICH is the dependent clause? Which is the independent one? is it:

"Researchers reported that" = DEPENDENT
or "that the Earth is warming up." = DEPENDENT

Can "Researchers reported." be an independent clause, standing alone as a sentence? Doesn't it need and object? Doesn't "The Earth is warming up." make more sense as an independent clause?
