Default whole vs all

I think that my question has already been answered in the forum, but I can't find the thread.
I'm asking about the usage of whole and all.
What is the difference between:

I know all the truth.
I know the whole truth.

Can I say "I have been reading the whole day" instead of "I have been reading all day long"
