In the first, either "didn't" or "doesn't" could be correct. The past tense form means "at that time"; the present form means "at that time and still in the present". The second verb should be "went" unless it is a narrative in the historical present. That structure is used for jokes and in some novels. It treats past events as if they are occurring in the present. It is difficult to do and remain consistent.
The same comments apply to #2. :wink:
