Default data from both mother and father of each child

Hi

If you are going to compare two groups (parents of autistic children and parents of normal control group) on a test, which has been completed by both mother of father of each child,

do you use 2 (groups – autistic vs normal/between subjects variable) x 2 (parents – mother vs fathers/ within subjects variable) ANOVA ?

OR do you use 2 (groups – autistic vs normal/between subjects variable) x 2 (parents – mother vs fathers/ between subjects variable) ANOVA?

Do you think the mother group and the father group are independent? Or do you think mother-father pairs are related and therefore the parent variable is a within subjects not a between subjects variable?

I appreciate if anyone can answer my question.

Thanks in advance
