rooster is synonymous with cock

Idioms with cock:

a cock and bull story = a story, excuse or explanation that is so unlikely that no one believes it

eg. I asked him about his job and he gave me some cock and bull story about being so rich he did not need to work.

PS: Tristran Shandy by Laurence Stern is a cock and bull story

cock an ear/eye ay something/somebody = look or listen to something/somebody carefully and with a lot of attention

cock an ear to something:

cock a snook at somebody/something= do or say something that shows your lack of respect for something/somebody, especially when you cannot be punished for this

eg. She cocked a snook at her teachers by going to school with her hair dyed purple.
