Therein lies the problem.

Previously, the Ask a Teacher link on the left hand menu used a javascript link to pop up a box where you could enter your question. This works well on other areas of the site, but in the forum it would mean that your login information would be ignored. The popup box used throughout the site is designed for new users.

Within the forum, I've now made the Ask a Teacher link go to a standard forum page, so this problem should not happen again.
