In my post, I discussed the difference between "as" and "because", because they were used in the sentences and extracts you quoted.
You also mentioned that "as" can have the meaning of "like". This is the meaning in the sentences you give in your reply:

He got divorced, (the same)as/like his parents had done years before.

Knowing him as/like I do, I can't believe he would do such a thing.
