I don't think 'a' is correct. But it is not because I know the reason but because it doesn't sound right. In the test sentence, it says "they inched their way" - that implies it was very difficult to move, so "walk" is unlikely; "go" is possible; "cover" is possible. Both say that "they" only went a short distance in the two hours.
Could you please explain 'b' and 'c'? I can't distinguish them.

a. even if b. even though
To me they are the same. But The key is 'b'. Could you please explain why? To me they are both applicable here. What was the exercise concentrating on?

According to the Chinese version the word 'barely' bears two meanings. So the following sentence can mean: "She wasn't able to recognize him" or "She was able to recognize him with difficulty". Could you please explain how to choose or decide the meaning of it? She could barely recognize him through his wounds. "She recognized him with difficulty". It does not have the meaning of not able to in English; it implies there is something making it difficult.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.
