Re: "to pee" vs "to piss" "Pee" is the more polite version. It's a euphemism, in that originally it was "the P word" -- in the same way that we still talk about "the F word" or "the S word". For some reason, though, "P" took on a life of its own, and now we have the verb "to pee".
It's still informal, though. The formal verb is "to urinate", which is the verb you will usually see in, for example, newpaper reports. An old-fashioned euphemism is "to pass water", but I don't recommend using it. |
