Any grading scale is subjective. It can be defined anyway you want just be consistent in application. In the US it is common to use the following scales.

Letter Points Meaning
A 9-10 Excellent
B 8-9 Very Good
C 7-8 Average
D 6-7 Below Average
F 0-6 Failing
