Default Two Questions

First, in the next sentence,

People unually wear (clothing) (because of) two (basic) purpose - (warmth) and decoragion.

What is wrong in this sentence? Some say 'because of' is wrong. I should use 'because for' instead. So I thought the original sentence should be like "....because it is for two purpose...." But, I think 'because of' is possible.

Second is,

History sometimes effects a kind of reverse perspective in one's perception of the past : ___________ the farther away they get.

a) events appear more significant
b) the more events appear significant

I thought this is the comparative, the comparative sentence, so I chose B as the correct answer. But the answer was A. Why is that?

Thanks for your time...
