Default apply to, true of, etc.

I'm searching my dicitionaries (monolingual and bilingual) for appropriate expressions - without success.

I found theses ones:

to apply for / to so. / sth.

to be true of so. / sth.

to be aimed at so.

to hold true/good for so.

It's confusing me.

When do you use these expressions? What are the differences?

Can you help me, please?

Thanks
Snowcake
