Red face Need help with an assignment

I have an assignment in an English literature course that requires the figurative meaning of a list of idioms from the novel, "To Kill A Mockingbird". I do understand the basic meaning of some of these idioms but would like to be precise in my explanations.

Here they are:

-set my teeth permanently on edge
-when the chips are down
-she traveled in state
-he has blind spots
-he looked daggers
-blue in the face
-fighting the good fight
-into the limelight

Thankyou,
TElse
