I have never seen 'timely' used as an adverb in this way, only ever as an adjective. Of Oxford, Cambridge, American Heritage and a couple of others, there is only one dictionary that gives a listing as an adverb, and that's Merriam-Webster.

To this British ear, it sounds most odd.
I'd agree with Barb_D :
"...advised of this situation in a timely manner."
