Default we are each...his own

1. We each are accountable for our own families.
2. We are each responsible for his own family.

The above sentences come from the chapter of concord of a grammar book written by a Chinese professor of English. Sentence 2 sounds odd to me. I'd like to know if native speakers would say such things.

Thank you in advance.
