Default Re: Systemic Functional Linguistics

Hi again

We too are able to report unprecedented success. I switched to "genre based" cyclic text reading and construction with my own classes, but we've also had impressive results with a colleague's raw beginners class of 12/13 yr old special needs pupils.

We are using a special video series extr@ with which we get the pupils to read and role play with the script and then recount the events using ideational block constructions. There's a simple description on my test site www.manxman.ch/moodle2 if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the feedback, it's nice to know others are putting theory into practice. BTW I discovered SFL as part of an Open University MA course E841. www.open.ac.uk

I'll be attending the SFL congress in Helsinki, Finland this June. University of Helsinki Looking forward to it, I actually met Prof Halliday at the last congress in Saarbrücken, Germany!!

Regards
