Default Grammar loose

Hello!

I am reading a book, and I will have few question.

I do not want to open a new thread for a new question so I have decided to ask informations here, in my thread

I am french so do not be surprised if I make mistakes from time to time...

Ok I have a first question :

Could you explain when do you use :

On the left or To the left (or right) ?

example I have in my book :

" Watch out for fast moving traffic to your left!"

Is it possible to use On your left too in this sentence ? or not ?

what is the difference please ?

thank you very much for your help
