Birds of a feather flock together is the only thing that comes to my mind. It means that people who have similar interests and beliefs are usually attracted to each other and like to spend time together.
That particular phrase has a few variations:
Birds of a feather will fly together.
It is a bird of another feather, shortened to Birds of a feather.
Birds of a feather are drawn together.

The only problem I have here is no direct mention of social/economic status in that proverb but in a way it can be easily interpreted that way too.
