I only know that occurs in formal english , and the "if" is omitted and thw auxiliary verb is placed (instead ) or before the subject. The auxiliary verbs used are: had were, or should.

It's really quite simple. Just omit
if and invert the subject and the
verb.
If I were you, I'd see a doctor. = Were I you, I'd see a doctor.
If I had known, I would have told you. = Had I known, I would have told you.
If anyone should call, please take a message. = Should anyone call, please take a message.
