Hi tdol,
Thank you for your friendly reply. I see what you mean. It is surely impose a slightly artificial structure. It may be tricky sometimes to set out on an essay writing trip without having a structure, even if it’s an artificial one, isn’t it? Let’s review the situation.
I address my suggestions to those who from the following two assertions would rather tick off the second choice.
1) I am going to win The Best Writer of the Universe Award.
2) I am going to get an acceptable band score for the IELTS writing task 2.
Time pressure, the word limit, anxiety during the exam wouldn’t favour a friendly environment to let go of your creative juices. This is one of the situations where my down-to-earth approach can help. The necessity to mind 3 paragraphs having 3 supporting ideas for each topic sentence makes you produce consistent chunks of text approximately 50 – 70 words in length. Look at my sample essay – the first paragraph uses 63 words. Simple arithmetic calculations show that 60 words multiplied by 3 paragraphs amounts to 180 words. 70 words left to build up a 250 word essay might be divided between the introduction and conclusion.
Regards,
Dmitrij.
