I want to know how to define the use of Simple Present "show" in the following quote:

"Recent polls show Bush's standing with the public has weakened as Americans....."

It cannot be a habit or regular action. Then what is it?

It is used to show a current certainty- the poll is finished and doesn't change. ;-)

'Are showing' would suggest that the results are less stable and likely to change. ;-)

You're welcome. Where is your site, BTW? ;-)
