Try this: I also don't want my children to feel an obligation to go to church.

(I"m assuming the "also" is there for a good reason.)

I also want my children not to be obliged to go to church.
I also don't want my children to be obliged to go to church.
(I'd write the former. It's one of few cases where I would write it this way to emphasise firmly that it's something I want (and expect), not something I don't want)
Barb's sentence is OK too, but it places the source of the obligation on the children rather than the authorities you're writing to.
Maybe:
I also don't want my children to be subject to an obligation to go to church.

Ah. I didn't assume there was another authority. I was thinking about an internally imposed obligation to go every Sunday because that's what "good" people do. As in "I won't raise my children to feel this obligation that I was raised with." Maybe I know more lapsed Catholics than you do :)

Maybe, but even being a very lapsed Catholic myself, this context didn't occur to me. Context - the perennial problem.
