Post "Lunch is long and gone" ?

Dear teachers.

I have faced a sentence that I can't make sense. May I ask you it's meaning?

---
I suddenly smell the aroma of food.
Lunch is long and gone.
It's too early for dinner.
---

thanks for advice.

My question is might too vague.

Is the "long" meaning "There is a long interval time between lunch and now"?

"I had(?) a lunch for a long time ago." Is it closely?

Does "long" mean.....?

I had lunch a long time ago. Is it close?

Nanatuha, the expression is "long gone".
You're right. It means a long time ago.
Lunch is long gone. = Lunch was a long time ago.

Thanks Dandelion.

I see. This sentence's verb is "be gone", isn't it?

Generally can I connect ADVERB and VERB with "and"?
"I'm hardly and worked." will I might see such sentences?

You're welcome, Nanatuha.

The verb is "is" (3rd person sing. of the verb to be).
"Gone" is the past participle of the verb "go". In this sentence it is used as an adjective meaning "past".

"Long" is an adverb modifying the adjective "gone".

No, you can never connect an adverb and a verb with "and", but you can connect two adverbs with "and".
Like this: I've worked hard and fast.

Thanks to your help, I have understood functions of each words. ...But still I have one question.

"gone" is an adjective modifying "is".
"long" is an adverb modifying "gone".

Can I connect both with "and", even they are different about part of speech?

You cannot simply because it's a phrase and I would leave it the way it is. Just like at long last, in the long run, etc.

e.g.
A long time ago, in a world that's long gone ( it does not exist any more), knights were fighting bloody duels for their ladies.

"gone" is an adjective modifying "is".
"Gone" doesn't modify "is". It's a predicate adjective modifying "lunch". Adjectives modify nouns or pronouns.

"long" is an adverb modifying "gone".

Can I connect both with "and", even they are different about part of speech?
Can I ...........even though they are different PARTS OF SPEECH?

No, you can't.
