| I've got a little problem. On Tuesday I write a test at school. Among other things "indirect speech" is asked. I don't have any problems with that but I don't know when I have to use "present perfect" in indirect speech. Would you please give me one or two examples, when I have to use it (direct speech -> indirect speech)? I've only found exercises where I have to use simple present or the past form Thanks a lot Dany Last edited by Dany; 29-Jan-2005 at 14:22. |

| Not so easy, Dany: 'I have donated $1,000,000 to tsunami relief.' 'He says he has given $1,000,000 to tsunami relief.' but 'He said he had given $1,000,000 to tsunami relief.' |

Thanks for your answer. Have I understood you right, that after "He says/ask that ....." the tense wish is used in the direct speech isn't changed? But after "He said that ....." ? If so, it isn't possible to use the present perferct when I say that someone said/asked something? In that case it is only possible to use simple past or past perfect. Correct? |

| Someone else may prove me wrong, but that's how it seems to me, Dany, with any examples I could think of. |
