Default Indirect speech / Present perfect

Hello everyone,

I've got a little problem. On Tuesday I write a test at school. Among other things "indirect speech" is asked. I don't have any problems with that but I don't know when I have to use "present perfect" in indirect speech. Would you please give me one or two examples, when I have to use it (direct speech -> indirect speech)?

I've only found exercises where I have to use simple present or the past form

Thanks a lot
Dany

Not so easy, Dany:

'I have donated $1,000,000 to tsunami relief.'
'He says he has given $1,000,000 to tsunami relief.'

but 'He said he had given $1,000,000 to tsunami relief.'

Hello Mister Micawber,

Thanks for your answer.

Have I understood you right, that after "He says/ask that ....." the tense wish is used in the direct speech isn't changed? But after "He said that ....." ?
If so, it isn't possible to use the present perferct when I say that someone said/asked something? In that case it is only possible to use simple past or past perfect. Correct?

Someone else may prove me wrong, but that's how it seems to me, Dany, with any examples I could think of.
