Difference between "in the event that" and "if"
Hi , Could anyone explain to me , what is difference between "in the event that" and "if". The example would be very helpful , thanks :)

In the event that something happens = If something happens
In the event of something (happening) = In case of something (happening)
In the event of a fire, do not use the lift.
In the event that a fire breaks out, do not use the lift.

The main difference is that the former uses three extra words to say the same thing.
