Past Tense vs. Present Perfect Tense
Which is correct?i took up my exam last yr or i alreay take up my exam last yr?
Remove 'up'
1. I took my exam last year
2. I've already taken the exam last year
I read this question on Yahoo! Answers - Home, and I wonder whether the answer number 2 is correct or wrong with "last year".
Can you please me correct this.
Thanks in advance.
Please tell me if there are any mistakes in my post.

I'm not sure where the "took up" part came from as that's wrong. However, of the 2 sentences you gave, number 1 would be correct.
You could say "I already took the exam. I took it last year" - or "I've already taken the exam. I took it last year".

Hello, I am 'The French',
I'm not teacher, but when you have when you have mark tense like 'last year' or 'ago' or others, which show us that the action happens and the past you cannot use the present perfect.
Don't forget one thing in your mind if you use the present perfect tense is to underline a relation between the past and the present time or one action which stopped recently.
It depends of the context.
Have a nice day.

I think we can also say: In the last year, I have already taken the exam.

It's a bit awkward said like that. It would be better to say: 'I have taken the exam within the last year'.
