Yes it's correct. The boy walked a long distance, while he was walking he was looking for an ice-cream stall.

"The boy walked a long distance, looking for an ice-cream stall" ?
Which the correct way of combining 2 sentences? Please advise.

This is one sentence, if you want to make it two you could say: 'The boy walked a long distance. He was looking for an ice-cream stall. In your original sentence the comma isn't necessary, it makes an unnatural pause.

Thanks, so "The boy walked a long distance looking for an ice-cream stall" is correct and
"The boy walked a long distance, looking for an ice-cream stall" is incorrect.
How do I explain the word 'looking'? How do I explain its participle/continous form and its function?
