Hi, All Americans and Canadians!

I'd like to know whether the above phrase is customarily used and heard in North America. (do the majority of North Americans understand it when it comes up in a conversation?)

To my knowledge, it acutally originated from the U.K. and is still being in use over there.

Any clarifications will be welcomed.

No, in the US, you would not use this phrase to say a person is getting a college education.
