"Attender in the public baths"
Can you help me with the meaning of this dialogue:
A: I was what they called a boy soldier. My dad joined me.
B: Did he?
A: Attender in the public baths, he was.
I get the feeling it is some sort of an expression but I don't know what it means.

An attendant is an employee who (waits on)(helps) customers.
