Why would a linguist have a problem with this sentence?
Why would a linguist disagree with the statement, "I have a real problem with my grammar."

I'm not a linguist, but I would have written either "I have a real problem with grammar" or "my grammar is a real problem," depending on what it is you are trying to express.

Grammar is very important. Grammar comes under a larger heading, however. And that heading is this: effective and clear communication.
Just the same, if one's communcation is effective and clear, without good grammar skills, one might find that despite being effective and clear, one's communication is not acceptable in certain situations, such as when looking for a job. Human resources people and managers assess job seekers, in part, by how they percieve their language skills. Of course, this depends on the job one is looking for. It's important to speak correctly. Don't say something like "there's a lot of traffic on the way here, but that *don't bother me" while making small talk, and then think you're a prime candidate for a customer service position.
